Disabled child care benefit

In order to provide additional support to families with a disabled child who has severe functional disorders and to provide more wholesome development and safer home care for disabled child, a disabled child care benefit is allocated to these families by the state.

As of January 1, 2008 the amount of benefit has been tripled and amounts to 213.43 euro per month.

Benefit is allocated to the person who is taking care of disabled child in the age up to 18 years or up to the period when the established disability or statement on necessity for a special care is terminated. Person can receive benefit also in case if he/she is employed.

In order to receive disabled child care benefit, child must have a disability established by the State Medical Commission for the Assessment of Health Condition and Working Ability and Opinion issued stating the need for special care.  

Disabled child care benefit can be received from the day when the Opinion stating the need for special care is issued to child by the State Medical Commission for the Assessment of Health Condition and Working Ability.

Additionally to the disabled child care benefit state also grants an additional payment to family state benefit for a disabled child - 106.72 euro per month. Thereby the state support to these families in form of benefits amounts to more than 320.15 euro.

Person who claims the benefit can submit a written request for granting disabled child care benefit to any local office of the State Social Insurance Agency (SSIA):

  • by appearing in person in the local office of the SSIA;
  • electronically by filling out the form and providing all the necessary information or using the form available at SSIA homepage www.vsaa.lv;
  • by sending it via post and providing all the necessary information or using the form available at SSIA homepage www.vsaa.lv;
