Social rehabilitation 

Social rehabilitation means the renewal or improvement of person's social skills in order to bring him/her back to the social and work life by renewing the skills or training into those which were lost due to various reasons.

State funds such social rehabilitation services to persons with disability.

Social rehabilitation to persons with visual impairment - within the framework of services, provider of social rehabilitation implements measures which change the impact of the loss of vision to person's ability to function in the society. Social service is provided in the place of residence of the client or at provider of the social services.

Provider of social services elaborates the social rehabilitation programs and according to client's individual social rehabilitation plan ensures:

  • psychological adaptation training;
  • mastering of sense of direction and movement skills;
  • mastering of self-care skills;
  • mastering of Braille system;
  • mastering of typhlo-technique;
  • mastering of specialized computer and communication equipment user skills;
  • mastering of basic skills of physical and intellectual work;
  • improvement of communication and creative self-expression skills;
  • mastering of adapted sport activities;
  • consulting and aid in solving client's social problems.

Provider of social services according to the client's individual social rehabilitation plan ensures certain social rehabilitation services so that client would master independent function skills (up to 300 hours per year) or social rehabilitation services package (staying at provider of the social services) so that client would master independent functioning skills (up to 150 days once in five years). When providing a social rehabilitation services to the client, the provider of social services follows the team principle by appointing the person in charge for the process of social rehabilitation.

Social rehabilitation for disabled with hearing impairment - within the framework of services, provider of social rehabilitation implements measures which change the impact of hearing impairment to person's ability to function in the society. Social service is provided in the place of residence of the client or at provider of the social services.

Provider of social services elaborates the social rehabilitation programs and according to the client's individual social rehabilitation plan ensures:

  • Latvian sign language interpreter and communication services;
  • Latvian sign language training;
  • mastering of communication and creative self-expression skills;
  • psychological adaptation training;
  • help and support in solving client's social problems.

Provider of social services according to the client's individual social rehabilitation plan ensures certain social rehabilitation services in order to promote social integration (up to 150 hours per year) or social rehabilitation package for client to master independent functioning skills (up to 150 days within 5 years). When providing the social rehabilitation services to the client, the provider of social services follows the team principle by appointing the person in charge for the process of social rehabilitation.

For persons with functional impairment state ensures social rehabilitation course. It is a body of measures that helps to learn to live with functional impairment, to get involved in social life etc. It includes elaboration of the individual social rehabilitation plan, training into adapting the environment and using the aids in order to improve mobility and self-dependent life skills.
These services are provided by Social Integration State Agency College. In order to receive the service, one must apply to the Municipal social service.
