  • Work group of social affairs of the EU Council
    All the issues that are decided upon in the Council of Ministers of the Employment and Social Policy of the European Union are discussed first by the work group of social affairs. It prepares the discussions of the ministers and seeks agreement on controversial issues in the projects of the legislation of the European Union regarding employment and social policy. In the work group of social affairs the interests of the Member States are represented by the special attachés nominated by the Member States, with the participation of experts also from the capital (Latvia is represented by the employees of the Ministry of Welfare). The meetings of the work group normally are held 1-2 times per week.
  • Employment Committee of the EU
    The Employment Committee was established by the Council of European Union in the status of advisory body in order to facilitate the coordination among the Member States of the policy of employment and labour market. The Committee supervises the situation and policy of employment in the Member States and in the European Union as a whole. It also participates in dealing with issues related to the European Employment strategy (for example, in developing the guidelines for employment, in preparing the annual review about the situation in employment in the European Union and about compliance of the Member States with the employment guidelines, etc). The Committee also provides conclusions within its expertise.
    There are two representatives from each Member State and European Commission in the Employment Committee (from Latvia the representatives of the Ministry of Economics and Ministry of Welfare take part).
     
  • Social Protection Committee of the EU
    The Social Protection Committee was established by the Council of European Union in the status of advisory body in order to facilitate coordination and experience sharing among the Member States of the European Union in the area of social protection. The Committee supervises the social situation and the development of the policy of the social protection in the Member States and in the European Union as a whole. It also facilitates the information, experience and practice sharing among the Member States. The Committee prepares reviews and provide conclusions within its expertise.
    Two representatives from each Member State and from the European Union are working in the Social Protection Committee (on the behalf of Latvia the representatives of the Ministry of Welfare participate in the Committee).
