From 1 January 2026
- The minimum monthly wage for full-time work will increase to € 780.
- The lump-sum childbirth allowance will be € 600 (previously € 421.17).
- Childcare benefits for children up to 18 months will be € 298 per month (previously €171) and will be reviewed every two years. Social insurance contributions for pensions, unemployment, and disability will also increase, as contributions will be calculated based on the higher benefit amount.
- Family state benefits will also be paid for children aged 16 to 20 years who are enrolled in full-time college or university studies (currently paid only for children in general or vocational education).
- The scope of socially insured persons will expand: for non-working guardians, mandatory state social insurance contributions from the state budget will be made based on € 171 per month for pensions, unemployment, and disability. For non-working parents receiving childcare benefits for a child with a disability, contributions will be calculated from € 413.43 per month (previously € 71.14).
- Guardian allowances for child maintenance will be € 390 per month for children up to 6 years, and € 468 per month for children aged 7–17 (previously € 215/€ 258).
- Compensation for performing guardian duties will be €298 per month, reviewed every two years (previously €54.07).
- Adoption allowances will be €195 per month for children up to 6 years, and €234 for children aged 7–17 (previously €107.5/€129).
- Compensation for the care of an adopted child, regardless of age, will be 70% of the national average social insurance wage, i.e., € 1,041 (previously the minimum was € 171).
- The lump-sum adoption allowance will be € 2,433 (previously € 1,422.87).
- Foster families will receive € 298 per month for duties performed, reviewed every two years. Existing coefficients for caring for two or three children will remain, with additional coefficients for caring for more children (previously € 171 for one child).
- Specialized foster families will receive € 1,560 per month. In 2026, new support services will gradually be introduced for specialized foster families, including respite care, civil liability and health insurance.
- Minimum maintenance allowances for children will increase to € 390 for children up to 6 years and € 468 for children aged 7–17 (previously € 215/€ 258). State compensation to municipalities for foster family child maintenance will increase: for children up to 7 years, from € 53 to € 225 per month (increase of € 172), and for children aged 7 and older from € 64 to € 270 (increase of € 206).
- Parental benefits for working parents will continue at 75% of their entitlement. The provision guaranteeing a higher share of parental benefits for working parents has been extended until the end of 2026.
- Support for parents of premature babies will increase: only the actual maternity leave will count toward the parental benefit period, extending the benefit period for parents of premature babies.
- Paternity benefits will be granted for 10 working days for each of two or more children born in a multiple birth to the father or caregiver; the same rule applies in cases of simultaneous adoption of two or more children.
- Gradual restoration of service period allowances accumulated before 31 December 1995 will continue. In 2026, these allowances will be granted to those who retired in 2018, 2019 and 2020.
- Funding for assistants and companions for people with disabilities will ensure that monthly compensation is never less than the national minimum hourly wage. For 2026, compensation per service hour is set at a minimum of € 6.03 in February and € 5.77 in November, remaining at € 5.72 in other months.
- State social security benefit amounts will increase:
- For pensioners: € 187/month (previously € 166)
- Orphans up to 7 years: € 213/month (previously € 189); from 7 years: € 255/month (previously € 226)
- Persons with Group III disability: € 187/month (previously € 166); persons with disability since childhood: € 213/month (previously € 189)
- Persons with Group I or II disability: payments remain dependent on severity and employment status, with additional allowances for non-working recipients.
- Minimum old-age pensions will rise: the base amount will increases from € 189 to € 213; for people with disability since childhood, from € 226 to € 255. Coefficient 1.2 applies plus 2% per year exceeding 20 years of service.
- Minimum disability pensions will increase: the base amount increases from € 189 to € 213; for persons with disability since childhood, from €226 to €255. For Group I and II, coefficients of 1.6 and 1.4 apply. Minimum compensation for loss of working capacity will also rise.
- Minimum survivor pensions and allowances will increase: for children up to 7 years: € 213 (previously € 189); for persons with disability since childhood: € 255 (previously € 226).
- State social benefit to a participant of mitigation of consequences of Chernobyl NPS and their families: € 187 (previously € 166).
- Guaranteed minimum income thresholds: single adult household €187 (previously € 166); other household members € 131 (previously € 116).
- Income thresholds for households in need: single adult € 425 (previously € 377); other household members € 298 (previously € 264).
- Income thresholds for low-income households: single adult € 680 (previously € 604); others € 476 (previously € 423).
- Minimum support for orphans and care-leavers: € 187/month (previously € 166); with disability € 255 (previously € 226). Lump-sum allowance for independent living: € 340 (previously € 302); with disability: € 510 (previously € 453). Lump-sum allowance for household items: € 1,445 (previously € 1,283).
From 1 April 2026
- Automatic pension recalculation will be implemented annually, starting 1 April 2026.
From 1 July 2026
- A new criterion for parental benefits will apply: benefits will only be granted for children with a personal ID registered as active in Latvia and permanently residing in the country. This aligns with common practice in EU countries to prevent benefits from being paid to third-country nationals temporarily working while the child and other parent live abroad.
