On October 30, the international conference “Pay Transparency – Facts, Experiences, Solutions” took place, bringing together experts and entrepreneurs to discuss the most suitable approaches for implementing transparent pay practices in Latvia.

The European Parliament and Council Pay Transparency Directive (2023/970) introduces significant changes in the application of the principle of equal pay across the European Union. Latvia must transpose this directive by June 7, 2026, but it is important for employers to begin preparations now.

Opening the conference, Minister for Welfare Reinis Uzulnieks emphasized:
“Pay transparency is one of the most effective ways to reduce wage disparities, and it benefits both employers and employees. Experience from other countries and evidence-based conclusions show that transparent pay policies:

  • reduce employee turnover, as workers feel valued and are less likely to seek employment elsewhere,
  • improve organizational culture and trust in leadership, boosting productivity and helping achieve company goals,
  • enhance the organization’s reputation by presenting itself as fair and socially responsible.

Today’s conference is an opportunity to explore approaches and methods for achieving these benefits in practice. International best practices and inspiring examples, the experience of Latvian companies, and the chance to participate in practical activities and active discussions provide a platform for jointly identifying the best and most suitable solutions for implementing transparent pay in Latvia.”

The conference livestream and recording are available on the Ministry of Welfare’s YouTube channel.
